🌿 Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

 

General Description:

 

One of the most popular and versatile oils in aromatherapy, lavender is known for its floral, gentle, and calming scent. It is considered a true all-rounder for physical, emotional, and energetic care and can be safely used by most people.

 

Main Therapeutic Properties:

  • Natural calming and sedative

  • Anxiolytic and emotional balancer

  • Analgesic and anti-inflammatory

  • Skin healing and regenerating

  • Muscle relaxant

  • Sleep inducer

 

Indications for Use:

  • Emotional: for states of anxiety, stress, irritability, and insomnia

  • Physical: in cases of muscle pain, cramps, mild burns, insect bites, and minor skin injuries

  • Aesthetic: for sensitive, acne-prone, or redness-prone skin

  • Energetic: excellent for harmonizing spaces and promoting a sense of inner peace

 

Most Common Uses:

  • Room aromatization (in diffusers or sprays)

  • Relaxing baths and foot soaks

  • Compresses and massages (always diluted in a carrier oil)

  • Add 1 drop to the pillow to aid sleep

  • Direct inhalation or use in an aromatherapy necklace

 

Contraindications and Precautions:

  • May cause drowsiness if overused during the day

  • Although one of the safest oils, pregnant women in the first trimester should consult a professional before use

  • Topical use should be diluted to avoid irritation on very sensitive skin

  • Not recommended for continuous use in prepubescent boys, as some studies suggest potential hormonal activity in rare cases

  • It was widely used in Ancient Rome to scent bathwater and bed linens

  • The name “lavender” comes from the Latin lavare, meaning “to wash,” reflecting its traditional use in purification and cleansing.
